Black Muslim Psychology Conference [BMPC]
Where To Stay

Accommodations in Dakar + Gorée
Finding the right accommodations is an important part of preparing for BMPC2026. Dakar offers a wide range of lodging options, from boutique hotels and coastal retreats to larger international properties and comfortable accommodations in residential neighborhoods. Whether your priorities are affordability, proximity to conference activities, convenience, or opportunities to explore the city, we encourage you to select accommodations that best suit your travel needs and budget.
Because BMPC2026 programming will take place across Dakar and Gorée Island, location is an important consideration. Neighborhoods such as Point E and Fann offer convenient access to Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD), where our opening conference programming will take place on Thursday, December 17. Hotels closer to downtown Dakar and Plateau may provide easier access to the Gorée ferry terminal, while the coastal neighborhoods of Almadies and Ngor offer additional dining, leisure, and hospitality options. Keep in mind that traffic in Dakar can be significant, so travel time to conference meeting points should factor into your decision.
Preferred Hotels
Hotel Fleur de Lys – Point E has been designated as the official BMPC2026 conference hotel, hosting Muslim Wellness Foundation and Pillars Fund staff, selected U.S. delegates, and special invited guests. Unlike previous BMPC gatherings in the United States, we are unable to negotiate a discounted conference room block for general attendees in Dakar. However, attendees are welcome to contact Hotel Fleur de Lys – Point E directly, mention their participation in BMPC2026 (December 17–19, 2026), and inquire about room availability and the possibility of securing a preferred rate. Please note that discounted rates are not guaranteed.
Exploring Other Accommodations
To support your planning, our travel partner, Touchdown Experiential & Hospitality Group, has identified several recommended hotels across Dakar, representing a variety of locations, amenities, and price points. The options below are intended as a helpful starting point rather than an exclusive or comprehensive list. As you compare hotels, consider proximity to conference activities, transportation access, cancellation policies, breakfast availability, accessibility needs, and total lodging costs. December is a popular travel season in Senegal, and we strongly encourage early reservations.
Please note:
All general attendees are responsible for arranging and paying for their own Dakar accommodations. Hotel recommendations and published rates are provided for planning purposes only and should be confirmed directly with each property before booking.

As a flagship initiative of Muslim Wellness Foundation’s Omar ibn Said Institute for Black Muslim Studies & Research, BMPC advances Black Muslim Psychology as an interdisciplinary field of inquiry, practice, and community-rooted knowledge production that centers the lived experiences, strengths, spiritual lives, racial identities, cultural traditions, and psychological well-being of people who identify as both Muslim and of Black/African descent. We seek to understand how Black Muslims make meaning, cultivate belonging, develop healthy racial and religious identities, heal from trauma, resist oppression, and build lives rooted in dignity, faith, joy, and self-determination.
Lastly, Black Muslim Psychology insists that Black Muslim life cannot be understood through suffering and deficit-based frameworks alone. We reject narratives which only ask:
"What harms Black Muslims?"
and ignore deeper, more fundamental questions such as:
"What sustains Black Muslims? What wisdom do Black Muslim communities carry? What forms of healing, leadership, and liberation emerge from Black Muslim life?”
Developed and advanced by Muslim Wellness Foundation since 2015, Black Muslim Psychology responds to a long-standing gap in psychology, counseling, public health, religious studies, and Muslim community life: the failure to adequately understand Black Muslims on their own terms.

BMPC2026: Rasikh — What We Carry Forward
December 17–19, 2026
Dakar + Gorée Island, Senegal
BMPC2026 is an invitation to remember truthfully, reconnect responsibly, and reclaim futures rooted in dignity, faith, healing, and collective care. As we gather in Dakar and on Gorée Island, we do not come seeking symbolic return alone. We come to honor memory, build relationship, and deepen our shared responsibility to the past, present, and future of Black Muslim life.
